There's a slight fall chill in the air, and brightly decorated pumpkins are popping up on doorsteps seemingly overnight.
There's no mistaking it - it's Halloween season in Santa Monica, where family fun events are at their spookiest best.
From pumpkin decorating and an all-night horrorthon to trick-or-treating on glitzy Montana Avenue and a costume parade for pets, Santa Monica Halloween events offer something for everyone in the family. Here's a look at upcoming Halloween activities:
Free pumpkin decorating for kids at the Santa Monica Main Street Farmers Market, 2640 Main Street from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Bring the bunch and choose a locally grown, bright orange pumpkin - the perfect canvas for glitter, paint, and google eyes.
Come prepared to decorate a pumpkin masterpiece that will be admired by all of the trick-or-treaters!
Set between the historic Victorian House and the California Heritage Museum, the Main Street Farmers Market is a favorite Sunday morning destination for local families.
Live, kid-friendly bands perform everything from bluegrass to French tunes. Other interactive activities like face painting keep the kids smiling all morning long.
The Kids Dance Society team will transform the West End Nightclub, 1301 5th Street, Santa Monica, into a family-friendly daytime dancing event from 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m, where children and adults can listen and dance to electronic dance music, current club music, and mixes provided by known and respected DJs.
Kids can see live performances by professional dancers, practice their cool dance moves and experience a nightclub environment in a safe, controlled daytime setting.
The event includes performances by KDS Hula Hoopers/Dancers; special appearances by "Circuit Breaker" robot; "Let Love Glow" creative station; face painting and a photo booth; bubbles and confetti cannons, and a snack and sweet shop.
Visit Kids Dance Society Halloween Party for more information and tickets.
For $5 a head, you can take home as many pumpkins as you can carry.
Strategically stack and balance all the pumpkins you can carry - put them in your teeth, balance them on your head (no help from friends and no equipment, please!) - then carry them to the end of the 25-foot-long patch lane and they are all yours!
Costumes encouraged. Wednesday downtown Santa Monica Farmers Market, 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. (or until all the pumpkins are gone).
Spend all night at the Aero Theatre's 12th annual Horrorthon!
Complete with between-film free food, giveaways, trailers and crazy shorts, this movie marathon feels like the rowdiest and most bizarre sleepover you'll ever attend.
Expect special appearances by the beloved Corn Gorn and his bride, Frost Nixon, Wizard Policeman, George Washingmachine and more from the Horrorthon canon. Be prepared to be showered with candy from Randy and DVDs at random.
Pack your pillows and survival kits and don't be shy... the louder you scream, the better your chances of being crowned Mister Horrorthon 2017.
